Icy Conditions

Turtleneck | Blazer (old, similar)| Jeans | Trench (similar) | Boots | Bag (Purchased here) | Sunnies | Gloves | Necklace | Lipstick

These icy conditions are no joke! All buses were cancelled in our area which meant a snow day for my boys and a work from home day for me (which also meant The Oldest and I could run out to take photos at lunch time!)

Country Christmas at the Waterloo Region Museum

Last weekend we had some grand plans to have our whole family join us to experience Country Christmas at the Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village but thanks to a round of snow storms and a few colds, the group was scaled back to me, AMH and my fellow adventurer in blogging, White Cabana! While I feel bad that our family was digging out or nursing a cold, I didn't feel bad for long as we had an incredible morning celebrating a variety of Christmas traditions!

Fair Isle Forest Walk

Sweater: Tabi (vintage, company no longer exists) | White long sleeve: Banana Republic | Jeans: Gap | Boots: Borrowed from The Youngest | Grey socks: Old, borrowed from AMH | Hat: New Era | Travel mug: Starbucks reusable cup

Fingers crossed this will be the last Fashion Friday post with snow in it! The Oldest and I went on a forest walk last Saturday to play around with the settings on my camera. I recently sat in on a photography class with Jordana of the blog White Cabana and I've been dying to put my new skills to use. After snapping these snowy pictures, it all melted! Heck, the temperature even rose to 11 Celsius (51 Fahrenheit) on Wednesday! There is snow in the forecast next week but the temperatures are all above freezing, I think we are seeing the start of spring! We can't really complain about this winter's weather but I am at the point where I want to put all my sweaters in storage and bring my Lillys out!

I fell in love with this Tabi fair isle sweater that I found at a local vintage shop because of the vibrant pink shade. I also liked the idea of having a cardigan style sweater, assuming I can get more wears out of it. I'm a big fan of layering, since I am always cold, and my obsession with Banana Republic long sleeve shirts continues. I have them in white and black and they are just the perfect neutral or layer for any outfit. My grey New Era hat matched the grey lines in the fair isle sweater and I really wish I could remember when or where I bought this hat. I know it was at least two winters ago, it's really driving me crazy that I can't remember! I wore my Gap jeans because they are and will always be my favourtie jeans and I borrowed an old pair of tall, warm grey socks from AMH and wore The Youngest's green boots. I still can't believe that the baby of the family is so big that he and I have the same size feet!

Happy Friday!

Flowers and Layers

Sweater: Columbia | Oxford: Ralph Lauren (Similar) | Jeans: GAP | Boots:Macy's | Watch: Micheal Kors Bradshaw | Gold & pearl earrings: Gift (I actually wore them on my wedding day!) | Wicker basket: Vintage

Welcome back freezing cold January weather! The first few weeks of January were unseasonably warm and it was lovely. But, the snow and the cold is back and I guess I can't complain too much. I really do love living in a place with four seasons. The snow is beautiful and the cold temperatures mean that I get to layer up my clothes! I am a big fan of layering and not just because it looks great in photos (there's a tip for when you are dressing your fam for a pic!), it's great because I am always cold! Until the temperature hits 85 degrees, you will find me in a cardigan or sweater.

I bought this Columbia sweater at National Sports during one of their Christmas sales (Columbia is having a 25% off Winter sale on their Canadian site, great for you US readers. Your dollar goes further in Canada right now!). Living in a house with boys who are sports crazy, I visit the store frequently. I loved the bright, almost neon, shade of pink and how thin it is. I love polar fleece but find it too thick to layer a nice oxford under it, this is the perfect weight! I think they managed to shrink the weight of polar fleece because this sweater keeps me just as warm. My pink Ralph Lauren oxford is an oldie, but a goodie. I have had this for probably 10 years and it still looks as good as the day I bought it. I knew it would be the perfect pink to layer with this new sweater.

On a freezing cold Saturday morning AMH and I visited the Kitchener Market, like we do most Saturdays. I love bringing along my basket to fill up with free range, flax fed eggs, some of the greatest cuts of meat you will ever find, and always lots of flowers! Our little flower market sells three bundles for $10 and since I was all dressed in pink I picked two bundle of pink roses and one bundle of blue and white hydrangeas. It's almost a full week later and while the hydrangeas wilted, I cut the rose stems into a smaller arrangement and they are still going strong!

Snow's Here!

Plaid jacket: Vintage (White Tiger Vintage, Kitchener) | Sweater: Talbots
Chambray Shirt: Old Navy | Jeans: Joe Fresh | Boots: Hunter, Military Red
 Gloves: Hudson's Bay | Necklace: WalMart Canada | Make-up: L'Oreal Paris

Well, well, well, the snow is finally here! We had a very green Christmas, in fact on Christmas Day we walked the dogs outside in our spring coats!

I based this outfit around the Hunter Boots and vintage jacket AMH bought me for Christmas. I wanted the reds to pop so I grabbed my white Joe Fresh jeans  (I don't believe that white is to be stored after Labour Day), my white Talbots sweater and I layered it with my Old Navy Chambray Boyfriend shirt, collars popped of course! The wind was fierce and to prevent my hair being in my face the whole time, I pulled it back into a loose bun. My giant faux pearl necklace was a total bargain at a WalMart in Welland. I only paid $5 (can you believe that!) and I've worn it quite a few times and have received many compliments on it. I love fashion and have always enjoyed mixing high and low items, I think this outfit qualifies.

One of my favourite things about living in Canada is getting to experience all four seasons. I am enjoying the snow but that being said, I don't want it sticking around forever. Once March arrives I would love to see the snow take a hike. Until then, I am trying to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. The Oldest and I headed to a local park to take some photos of the forest and of my outfit for the blog. When the sun was out it was warm enough to walk without your jacket but the second the clouds came back, jackets on! And like all good Canadian kids, I had to slide once I found a patch of ice! I think the best thing about spending time outdoors in the winter is coming inside to a hot tea or hot chocolate and warming under a blanket by the fire. And we did just that after these photos.

Ringing in the New Year

(Dessert was baked puff pastry layered with fresh whipped cream and topped with raspberries soaked in Cointreau and dusted with icing sugar. They were delicious!)

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer Clutch: Lilly Pulitzer c/o Island View
Shoes: Ralph Lauren Earrings: Fornash Necklace & Bracelets: WalMart & Old Navy
Make Up: Dior Nail Polish Revlon Creme Brulee

Hello 2016! I finally managed to stay awake, barely, to ring in the new year with my family. We had a nice little party at our home filled with lots of yummy food (including the pastry dessert I made!), sparklers and confetti poppers (I swear, it was for the kids) and a lot of decorations I picked up from Party City! It was my first time in the store and I was truly impressed. I was able to pick up hats, necklaces, hanging decorations and a streamer background that made a great photo op space in our home. It was a festive affair, no matter how tired we all were.

I know tradition is to wear a LBD on NYE but...I just love dressing in colour! I have had this gold and cream Lilly Pulitzer dress for a few years and have only worn it one other time. I tried to up the sparkle as much as possible by adding glittery earrings and mixing gold and pearls for my other accessories. My Lilly Pulitzer clutch, that fits everything you need for a night out, matched the gold in the dress perfectly. A special night calls for a special heel so I broke out my Ralph Lauren heels. The heel is much higher than I would normally wear, so I only wear them on special occasions.

Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy 2016!

Merry Christmas, Darling

Sweater: Croft & Barrow (from Kohl's) Coloured Denim: Material Girl (from Hudson's Bay)
Shoes: Payless Earrings: Fornash Bracelet: Pearls from Macy's

From my family to yours, wishing you a very Happy Christmas! The presents have all been unwrapped in the Henderson household and we are all looking forward to a day filled with good food, even better drinks, and time spent with family. My wish for you is a day spent with those you love and hold most dear.

Christmas Day is the perfect time to dress in holiday red. My red denim perfectly matched with my poinsettia embroidered cardigan from Kohl's and my favourite red heels. It's a wonderfully festive outfit and matches with my holiday decor of red and lots of plaid!
