Not-So-Scary Halloween Movies

After last weekend's visit to Discovery Harbour's Pumpkinferno, I realized that I am a bit of a fraidy cat. Actually, this has been building for some time. I think that the horror movies being released now are much scarier than they used to be (or better said as back in my day because I am a scared oldster now). The Oldest and his friends see every new scary movie in the theatre and I am more than content to either drive them or hand over popcorn money. It's a waste for me to go as I sit with my hands over my eyes the whole time! I can't handle the anxiety of what the next jump scare will be! Thankfully, I have a large stack of Not-So-Scary Halloween Movies at home! Some of these titles are still pretty scary (if you are looking for movies for little ones, try this), but they are not turn-your-hair-white-and-never-sleep-again-scary.

If you're looking to get into the Halloween spirt, but would still like to get to sleep tonight, I recommend:

  • Halloween (1978)
  • Frankenweenie
  • The Haunted Mansion
  • Beetlejuice
  • Psycho
  • The Birds
  • Village of the Damned (1960)
  • Joy Ride
  • Wolf
  • House of Wax (2005)
  • Ghostbusters
  • Fat Albert Halloween Special
  • It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
  • The Village
  • Casper
  • The Addams Family
  • NickToons Halloween (Fairly OddParents & Spongebob)
  • Something Wicked This Way Comes
  • Frankenstein (1931)
  • Wolfman (1941)
  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind
  • Zombieland
  • Signs
  • Hocus Pocus
  • The Legend of Sleepy Hollo
  • Roseanne Halloween DVD

No matter how old I get, I will still watch Hocus Pocus and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. They are classics that my entire family was raised on. It's not he Halloween season until you watch both and eat too much candy corn.

And for those that were around in the 90's, surely you remember the Roseanne and the famous Halloween episodes. You can actually buy a DVD that is just each seasons Halloween theme episode! I've had this disc for years and love to watch along with my granny square blanket (just like the one Roseanne has!)

There are 11 more days until Halloween, plenty of time to make it through these Not-So-Scary Halloween Movies. Which one will you watch first?
