Pretty Candles

Celebrating This Life

Pretty candles always make a great gift item. An uplifting scent is perfect as a get well gift or something warm and spicy as a holiday hostess gift would be greatly appreciated by the gift receiver. So many candles are housed in the most beautiful containers meaning you can still enjoy them long after the candle has burned (you can reuse the vessels for holding pens or make up brushes!).
And don't forget about yourself! Buy your favourite scent to remind you of a special vacation (coconut and lime always remind me of trips to Fort Lauderdale) or just to freshen up your home (I have two teenagers and two dogs so I know a lot about this). Today, I have rounded up my favourite pretty candles to help make finding the perfect gift for that special someone on your list easy!

1. Jo Malone Orange Blossom - Clementine flower, orange blossom, water lily with warm undertones of orris and balsamic vetiver, it even sounds relaxing!

2.Coal and Canary Cable Knit Scarf - A company I was introduced to at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto this past weekend. Coal and Canary are a Canadian company, they hand pour all their candles in the factory in Winnipeg. Cable Knit Scarf smells incredible, toasted hazelnuts, vanilla and butter. The kind of candle that will be perfect during the winter months.

3. Nest Holiday - Pomegranate, mandarin orange, pine, cloves and cinnamon with a hint of vanilla and amber. Not only does it smell like Christmas, the glass container and box are stunning! I once read that this was the most popular candle to gift for Christmas and it is easy to see why.

4. Yankee Candle - Yankee Candle has over 200 different scents so no matter what your scent preference is, they will have one to match. I love buying the votives, especially when they have their $1 sale, to place in the bathrooms. Why not create a gift basket filled with a variety of scents and a few glass votive holders or purchase of the pre-made gift sets. I like to buy a few of the gift sets for family and as last minute hostess gifts!

5. Calypso St. Barth Casablanca - "An addictive blend of coconut, violet and sandalwood, it is feminine with a romantic edge. This seductive and alluring scent will inspire passion, adventure and luxury." What a description! I would take this candle with me on a tropical vacation and then return home with it. That way whenever you burn it at home, it will remind you of your time away!

6. Illume Balsam & Cedar - Balsam and oak moss, cedar wood, cinnamon and eucalyptus mingle to create a scent that will remind your of your beautiful Christmas tree, even after it is long gone. The iconic candle can be purchased in a wide variety of sizes and vessels. You can pick them up at The Art of Home in Cambridge but you'll have to hurry because they sell out every year!

7. Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black - This is my signature fragrance right now, Elizabeth and James' Nirvana Black. I love the combination of sweet feminine scents, violet and vanilla, mixed with a warm sandalwood. It smells lovely and warm and would make a great candle for the homebody (that would be me!)

8. Diptyque Baies/Berries - And I couldn't share a pretty candle gift guide without including the iconic, and much Instagrammed, Diptyque Baies. Roses and blackcurrant leaves make up this fruity scented candle perfect for lighting all year long. Once the candle has burned, wash out the glass jar and use it to hold a variety of items. This candle is a perennial favourite and you would win the "best giver award" if you gifted this pretty candle.
