Out Came The Sun And Dried Up All The Rain

preppy spring outfit

We had a rainy start to our Easter long weekend but thankfully, it didn't last long. In fact, after the rain the city was in bloom! Magnolias everywhere are bursting out of their buds and the sweetest purple ground cover flowers are everywhere.

After a few rainy morning errands, the boys and I headed to one of my favourite places in the city, Victoria Park. Actually, this was the second time I had visited over the long weekend (earlier AMH and I brought the dogs here). The ground was still wet and soggy and I was only more than happy to wear my lavender Hunters. I call them my 'ice breaker boots' because without fail, someone always asks me about them. They are just such a happy colour, they really get people talking!

We walked around the park, met a few nesting geese (they sure did let us know when we got too close!) and snapped these photos before heading off to our next destination, 7/11 for Slurpees! The rain did nothing to cool the air and I'm happy to report we were in the high 20's the entire weekend.

I bought this vintage Holt Renfrew dress last year and truth be told, haven't had too many occasions to wear it. The sleeves are full length giving the idea that it would be great to wear in cooler weather but the material is definitely something that has to be worn in warm weather. When we snapped these photos there was a little chill in the air and my new J.Crew cardi (which was on my list of spring clothing items) kept any chills at bay. By the afternoon the cardi was off and so was the dress, it just became too warm to wear anything with long sleeves. That's when I decided that this vintage dress just might need a little makeover. I'm going to talk to my seamstress about removing the sleeves so I can continue wearing this dress in the summer.

My little straw bag, totally on trend this year, was an old purchase from Target. I'm pretty sure it was in the "cheapie" section and I only paid $3 for it. I am a total hoarder of tote bags (the first step is admitting you have a problem, right?). This straw one is a little flimsy so I am hoping to find an even better one in my travels this summer.

  1. Oh my goodness - a perfectly coordinated purple frenzy for Easter weekend. I can't believe you even got the flowers to coordinate! Or was it the other way around... :) Victoria Park is such a lovely backdrop for your style photos!
