JORD Watch Mother's Day Giveaway

JORD watches

This Mother's Day I am celebrating all moms by hosting a giveaway! I've teamed up with JORD Watches to giveaway a $100 gift card. And everyone who enters will also receive a $25 gift card!

Wooden watch JORD

JORD was kind enough to send along their Zebrawood and Navy Frankie watch for me to try out. I've been wearing it non stop since it arrived last week and I just love it! I was able to select the size of the band and I opted to size up two cms as I like my watches to be a little loose, more like a bracelet.

JORD, wooden watches

What I really like about this women's watch, besides the colour and style, is the feel of the wood on my wrist. I've always found that my hair or skin gets pinched when wearing a metal link band, not a problem when it's a soft wood!

One of the toughest and easiest jobs I have ever had is being a mom. I was lucky enough to stay at home when my boys where young. Once they both were in school, it was time to find a job and build a career from the ground up. It was difficult finding a job that was willing to overlook the five year gap in my resume, and I'm so grateful for the job I did manage to get as I have been able to build a rich career out of it, but during that time of so many first interviews, it was tough.

Human Resources and Interviewers would all ask the same question "Please explain the gap on your resume". And while I could have easily said that I just "stayed at home" I always felt that didn't properly explain what I really did. I was always proud to share that in my time I managed a household and volunteered in my community with my children.  I took their education very seriously and we would have study sessions with education materials based on their age and attention span. I organized field trips to children's museums and local historic sites, I managed projects in our home and I was an expert in conflict resolution (with two boys close in age, I was a master!). I nurtured my creativity with them, coming up with crafts to make and decorating our home on a budget. I once stayed up all night painting little yellow squares on my youngest son's bedroom walls because it was far cheaper than wallpaper!

It's been more than 10 years since my days at home and anytime I have been in the position to help a mom return to the workforce, either by helping with their resume, interviewing techniques, or just helping get their foot in the door, I jump at the opportunity. The skills that one develops while staying at home are not something to be overlooked. I hope if you one day find yourself in the position of hiring a mother with a gap in her resume you will follow up the standard "please explain the gap" with "tell me what skills you developed in that time that will help you in this role".

Moms need to be celebrated and the one thing they really all want is more time. Well, this unique mother's day gift the next best thing. Enter here to win a $100 gift card so you can spoil yourself or mom!

Thank you to JORD for partnering on this post and for gifting me this beautiful watch
