Celebrating National Stripes Day in Brooklyn

Last weekend I ticked off two "finallys" - I finally got to visit Brooklyn and I finally got my hands on a pink stripe shirt, courtesy of Duffield Lane!

I have to tell you the craziest story about my hunt for a pink stripe shirt. It started off simply, I saw a photo on Pinterest of someone wearing a pink stripe shirt with a jean jacket and I fell in love. I already had the jean jacket (it's a staple in my wardrobe that will never go out of style!) I just needed the pink stripe shirt. I searched online and couldn't find anything. I thought maybe it just wasn't the right season. A year later (yes an entire year!) I finally saw a pink stripe shirt from a major retailer. Perfect. There was only one little problem. When I tried to place my order I was met with the error message that they cannot ship that colour. Not that shirt, just not the shirt in pink. I could order one of the twelve other colours but not pink. Strangest thing ever!

Well another year has passed and my story has an incredibly happy ending, all thanks to Duffield Lane! Their new spring collection was just released and lo and behold they have a pink stripe tee. Life made. I figured it would make the perfect outfit to cross off something I have been dying to do for some time, visit Brooklyn. I've been visiting NYC since I was young but there is just so much to see and do, I've never really had a chance to leave Manhattan. On my recent road trip (which I'll cover in another post) we had a free day which just happened to be #NationalStripesDay (I love celebrating the fake holidays!). We were in Connecticut which is only an hour train ride from Grand Central Station so we decided to go for it and finally visit Brooklyn.

I, like 1000 other Instagrammers, wanted that iconic shot at the corner of Washington and Water in DUMBO to get the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. Lucky for us, the weather was just perfect on Saturday. I was bundled up in a cardigan, vest and rain coat but after walking over the Manhattan Bridge (crammed in with thousands!) I was shedding layers. By the time we got to the Brooklyn Bridge Park, we were in shirts and looking for something cold to drink. A total 180 from what it's currently doing in NYC, snowing like crazy!

My pink stripe shirt looked great with white jeans and sneakers and my red Gucci purse. Who says pink and red don't mix! The ultra soft Peruvian cotton and flattering fit has made this my favourite shirt in my wardrobe. I've only had it for two weeks and I'm already on my third wear! You can't beat the price either, $42 for a lovely nautical staple that will look fabulous right until fall. And to top it off, they are a lovely small business based in East Grand Rapids, Michigan (you can read all about them in my past post).

  1. You've got to check out Brooklyn Heights and the promenade next time you're in town. BH reminds me of Back Bay in Boston. So many stunning homes!
