Shopping the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale

Lilly Pulitzer

The Lilly Pulitzer 2019 After Party Sale starts at 8am today! This is a two day sale filled with deep discounts and an opportunity to grab a print you may have missed out on earlier in the year.

How the sale works:

Once you log onto the Lilly Pulitzer website, you will be placed in a virtual queue (currently I have 17,000 people ahead of me 😐)

Once you are in, start adding your favourite pieces into your cart (I'll give you some inspiration below). Just know that having the item in your cart does not mean you "have it".

Once you start to check out you might notice that an item may be removed, as someone else ahead of you in the virtual queue may have checked out with the same item. The only way to truly secure your item is to check out quickly.

There is a time crunch once you are finally able to shop the sale so it's important to know these two things:

  • All items are final sale

  • Know your "Lilly" size For reference I am a size Large 10/12 in Lilly clothes (I'm 5'7 and usually wear a large in other brands)

The sale ends Tuesday January 8th at 11:59ET so if you don't get a chance to shop today, you still have time.

You don't need to have a Lilly account but it sure helps to speed up the check out process.

The sale is also happening in stores! If you have a Lilly shop or a via store nearby, the sale starts at opening today.

For my Canadian Lilly Lovers - Once upon a time it was rather difficult for us to shop the sale, not anymore! You just need a few workarounds to bring that Lilly across the border.

Get a US post office box - This one takes a little research. If you live close enough to the border, or travel there often (like I do!) get a PO Box in either Buffalo or Detroit. Right now I use My Detroit Address. It's really easy. I have a number that I use, along with the mailing address, and they email me when my package is available. I don't pay a monthly fee, rather a per package fee of $4 USD/$5 CAD (taxes included). The price increases slightly for oversized items (I once had chrome bumpers for our vintage car shipped there!). If you travel more on the Buffalo side you can sign up with CBI USA which operates the same way, for a slightly higher fee.

Contact a Lilly via store - This one is slightly harder to do the morning of the sale. The shops are busy and staff will be servicing customers in store. In the past, this was how I bought all my Lilly Pulitzer clothes. I would contact a Lilly via shop by phone or email and ask what they had in my size and price point I was willing to spend. They would send names of dresses or photos and I would complete my transaction. They mail to me at home and that's it!

Splash of Pink is a Lilly shop in Westport, Connecticut that ships to Canada.
Pink Sorbet is a Lilly shop in Columbia, South Carolina and they were the first shop to help me secure my coveted Lilly items!
Island View is the only Canadian Lilly shop. Located in Oakville, Ontario they are willing to ship items, the only catch is they don't always participate in Lilly sales and from the looks of their Facebook page they are skipping this sale. Follow them on social media to get alerts about their sale dates.

  2. Very helpful. I shopped on the weekend in store. I have seen few items I like online, but always thought you had to phone in the order if you’re Canadian? I have access to a US address, so can I do it online?

    1. Hi Victoria! You can shop the sale online if you're Canadian and have access to a US address and have a US credit card (this is how I do it). I have a few Canadian friends that just shopped the sale successfully with a Canadian credit card. The trick is to create an account before the sale with all your details listed (address, credit card info), they called and set this up a long time ago. If you want to start shopping online you can call them at 1-888-725-4559 to set it all up. The other way is to shop online at one of the via shops. They are always willing to sell and ship to Canadians! They can ship to your US address or your US one. Hope this helps! xx

    2. Another tip I just got from a fellow Canadian is to use a US address and check out with PayPal. They said they've used this a few times to shop online and it works well!

  3. When the store ships to your Canadian address did you have to pay duty? If so is that to the UPS service or the post office. I am unsure how this works but I have noticed some companies, including some from Britain, now ship here but I am not clear what this means for the duty. Thanks so much for your posts and your help!

    1. Hey Sarah! Oh yes, the dreaded duty. There will be a charge for Lilly items as they are not produced in NA (therefore not protected under NAFTA). And sometimes even when the item is made in NA, there is still GST to content with (I wrote this post a while back that has been helpful to many fellow Canadians https://www.celebratingthislife.ca/2018/02/the-best-and-not-so-great-online.html)

It's all in the amount of the item and how the staff fill out the customs form. I've purchased from two stores and luckily, I didn't have to pay any additional customs fees. If you do have to pay, I look at it this way - The prices during the APS sale are heavily discounted and worth the additional fees.

When I do get dinged with fees, it's payable to the service that delivers it. But it's worth noting that it's our government that is charging this, not the carrier (although I have noticed that Canada Post now likes to charge a $10 handling fee)

      Hope that helps! xx

  4. Thanks! This does help. I will just have to do some experimenting, smaller orders first and see how it goes. It sure is frustrating seeing images from all over the world but not being able to easily access the items. And then there is the sizing issue!

    1. I couldn't agree more! Sometimes it feels like we're being punished just for being Canadian! There is a Lilly dress that I am loving right now. It's $258 online and I stopped into the only Canadian store to see it in person and they are charging $458. Outrageous. If someone would just make a colourful clothing line sold at a reasonable price in Canada, they would make a killing (it's my dream to do just that! :) Let me know how you make out! xx
