It's a totally different experience being at the beach in January!

Coast Waterproof Jacket (right now 50% off!) | Oxford (similar)

First off, you pretty much have the beach to yourself. That probably has a lot to do with how darn cold the wind can get! Not going to sugarcoat this one, it was cold. Like I need a bath and a hot chocolate to recover from this, cold. The plus side is that if like me, you want to take photos of your dog without people in the background, this is the time to visit.

Thank goodness for kind Blogging/Instagram friends! Once we got to Fairfield, Connecticut I reached out to local CT blogger, Lindsay of Vineyard Loveknots and asked her if she knew of a nice beach we could take Ivy to. She recommended Tod's Point as at this particular time of year they allow dogs on the beach (starting in March dogs are not allowed)

It was only a 30 minute drive from our Airbnb in Fairfield so early one morning we took the dog to run around and hopefully tire her out. Ivy frolicked in the water, sniffed seashells and made a few doggie friends. Luckily we brought a beach towel and blanket for the backseat of our car because she was covered in sand!

A cold beach day called for a simple and functional outfit. Jeans and waterproof boots, an oxford layered with a warm white cardigan (that funnily enough can't be seen in this photos) and my Joules raincoat that I bought in Scotland, the land of chilly and rainy weather. The coat is on sale right now for half off so if you've been eyeing this one, scoop it up now before rainy spring days are here.
